The Orange Picking Tradition
Bingara’s long held Orange Picking and Festival tradition is an important part of our school calendar. Each year since the 1960s’ BCS students have been responsible custodians of the trees that line the streets of Bingara, planted as a living memorial to Bingara's falle soldiers of World Wars I and II.
Our children are taught the significance of the trees from an early age and ask for community and visitor co-operation not to pick the oranges until the official ‘picking day’, the last day of Term 2 each year.
The day begins with a commemorative service hosted by student leaders at the front of the RSL Club before students and community members run to harvest the fruit-laden trees.
