Bingara Central School Kindy Gritters
Kindy Gritters
Our transition program has been highly successful since we began the extended transition to school. Students have been quicker to settle into class routines, anxiety has been reduced for both the child and parent and our students already feel as if they own the classroom from their very first day.
Program Goals
The main goal of the Kindy Gritters program is to familiarise students to school routines. Each session children will focus on a sound and number of the week.
Pre Best Start
Through this successful program, we are able to monitor student school readiness and identify areas of support in the year leading up to formal schooling. Initial observations are carried out in the preschool environment, followed by 2 more observations during Kindy Gritters sessions. Parents are provided with a snapshot of their child’s progress and a learning goal.
Our school data indicated that a larger number of students entering Kindergarten in 2024 were able to write and recognise their name, read some single sounds and indicate the larger or smaller numbers in a range or 1 to 10, when compared to previous cohorts.
Transition structure
• Term 2: 2 hours
• Term 3: 2-3 hours – students are introduced to the playground
• Term 4: ½ day 9am-1pm – students transition to class after recess
• Week 6 – 4 full days - students have a full day in the life of a Kindergarten student.
Enrolment
School enrolment forms are required to be completed before students start the transition day so that we can access emergency contacts.

Buddy Program
Your child will have been paired up with a Year 6 Buddy during their Orientation to Kindergarten. This buddy will be responsible in assisting to make your child’s transition into school easier. The Buddy will be responsible for helping your child get out to the playground for recess and lunch and then back to lines at the appropriate time.
