High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
At Bingara Central School, we are committed to delivering rich, purposeful learning opportunities that align with the NSW Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) policy. As a K–12 school deeply connected to our community, we recognise the diverse strengths our students bring and encourage every child to achieve to the very best of their ability. As a school we are committed to developing talent from the earliest years through to graduation, ensuring all learners are challenged, extended and supported so they can thrive academically, creatively, socially and physically.
Our approach is grounded in a broad view of giftedness and high potential. We work to identify students across multiple domains and design learning environments that are tailored to each child’s unique journey. By embracing this diversity, we provide challenging, differentiated opportunities that nurture strengths in the intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical domains.
We hold high expectations for all students, including those with high potential and those identified as gifted. Our programs and practices support the holistic development of every learner, building confidence, fostering curiosity and encouraging students to challenge themselves as they grow in knowledge, skill and wellbeing.
Through this commitment, Bingara Central School continues to create a learning culture where every student is known, valued, and supported to excel.
Differentiation
Our teachers carefully identify each student’s learning needs and use evidence-based strategies to extend and challenge their abilities. Learning pathways and enrichment opportunities are tailored to help students build on their strengths. Classroom tasks are differentiated through adjustments to pace, complexity, and the level of higher-order thinking required. Ongoing formative and summative assessment ensures we monitor growth closely and adapt teaching in response to student progress.
Smaller Class Sizes
Our smaller class environments allow for increased face-to-face time and more targeted instruction. This supports teachers to personalise learning and respond to individual needs with greater precision.
Writing Focus
Across every Key Learning Area, we prioritise the explicit teaching of writing. This consistent focus helps students develop strong foundational skills, refine their craft and build confidence as capable learners.
Personal Best Program
Students engage in structured feedback and reflection processes designed to help them understand their strengths and next steps. They are given dedicated time to apply explicit feedback, reinforcing the idea that improvement is an ongoing and achievable part of learning.
BCS GRIT
Our classrooms nurture the five key learning dispositions of BCS GRIT—reflective, self-motivated, engaged, resilient, and creative learners. We believe that every student can learn, grow, and make significant progress when supported to persevere, think deeply, and take ownership of their learning.
At Bingara Central School, we offer a diverse and intentional suite of programs that nurture high potential and gifted learners across the intellectual, creative, physical and social-emotional domains. These opportunities reflect the NSW Department of Education’s HPGE policy, which emphasises identifying student strengths, providing extension and enrichment and supporting the holistic development of every child. Our aim is to ensure that students can engage deeply with their areas of talent, develop new skills and thrive as confident, capable learners both within the school and in the wider community.

Hands-on workshops emphasise the development of skills such as problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking and team building. Our students are encouraged to apply for and engage in these pathways.
University of New England Science Camp
Attending The Science Experience 2025 at the University of New England was a valuable intellectual opportunity for Bingara Central School students Oriah A, Ruby M, and Sean M. Over three days, they engaged in hands-on workshops across diverse fields such as neuroscience, forensics, chemistry, agriculture, and biomedical science — all facilitated by real scientists in university labs. From learning how the brain processes memory to analysing fingerprints and making butter while studying dairy science, the camp provided rich, real-world learning experiences that expanded their scientific knowledge, critical thinking, and passion for STEM. Opportunities like this show that at Bingara Central, anything is achievable.
BCS Cattle Club
The Cattle Club program at Bingara Central School provides students with a hands-on, physically active learning opportunity that supports the development of skills in agriculture, animal handling, and teamwork. As a physical learning option, the program allows students to engage directly with livestock—preparing, grooming, and leading cattle for show events—which builds practical knowledge, physical coordination, and responsibility. Through regular training sessions and participation in agricultural shows, students learn about animal welfare, farm management, and presentation techniques, all while working in a real-world, outdoor environment. This program not only supports students with high potential in the physical and vocational domains but also fosters confidence, discipline, and a strong work ethic through experiential learning.
School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
At Bingara Central School, School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) are an option that can be integrated into a student’s senior schooling pathway, offering a flexible and practical alternative to traditional study routes. This program allows students to combine their HSC studies with part-time work and industry training, leading to nationally recognised qualifications. By participating in an SBAT, students gain real-world experience, develop job-ready skills, and explore a range of career options while still at school. This integrated approach supports personalised learning and helps students make informed choices about their futures, setting them up for employment, further education, or ongoing apprenticeships after graduation.
CAPERS
CAPERS is a key physical component of the High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) program at Bingara Central School, providing students with opportunities to extend their talents in the performing arts. After participating in the New England Regional Dance Workshops in Tamworth—where students develop dance technique, ensemble skills, and creativity—some choose to audition for CAPERS, an arena-style production that showcases student talent from across the New England region. The audition process involves preparing and performing an individual piece, allowing students to demonstrate their physical skill, creativity, and stage presence. CAPERS features music, dance, drama, and visual art performances by students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Through this exciting, large-scale, community-driven event, students further develop their performance abilities, collaborate with peers, and engage in real-world, physically challenging experiences, exemplifying the HPGE program’s commitment to nurturing talent in the physical domain.
